Green Tea:When is flavoring enough?

The reason why green tea is drank by so many is because it has been proven to carry immense health benefits. Unfortunately, not everyone is particularly fond of its flavor which has been likened to seaweed. This distaste has given rise to creations such as green milk tea and the green tea latte that give green tea a new, usually sweeter flavor. But whilst the ideas might be nobel, it does provide an amusing spin because plain green tea already has its own flavor.

Sugar does tend to make things taste good, and flavored green tea is no exception. Today items like ice cream, frozen yogurts, cakes and some sweets can be found with the green tea flavor. And with all the added taste of milk, sugar and syrup, there is very little left in way of original  green tea flavour. Adding sweet ingredients might enhance the flavor of green tea, but it can also enhance the number of calories. As a result of this, even though green tea is widely accepted as healthy, drinking flavored green tea is an entire different ball game. It tastes great but there’s a price to pay. By mixing your green tea with other compounds you end up losing many of its health benefits.

But flavored green tea doesn’t have to be unhealthy. It is possible to find other brands of green tea that are sweet and delicious and still healthy. An easy way of achieving this is by using fruit flavours. You can add pieces of fruit like apple or mango or add fruit juice from lychee or pomegranate. The fruit you choose depends on your preference.

And while you experiment with different flavours , you can still leave yourself open to the occasional foray into plain Chinese green tea. Some of the factors that will affect the flavor of your green tea are the type of water you use and the nature of the leaves. By using only the very best ingredients, you will be able to get the best flavor out of your green tea. With fresh leaves and purified water you are guaranteed a better taste as opposed to the artificial taste carried with tap water. How hot the water is will also contribute to the end results. Letting boiling water cool down a bit before pouring it in preserves the flavor. With fresh leaves and purified water set at the right temperature, you will be setting yourself up for an unbelievable green tea experience.
